From the Nurse:
Just a reminder that Postural Screening will begin on:
Tuesday, May 1rst (Grade 6), Wed. May 2 (Grade 7) and Th, May 3 (Grade 8)
Postural screening is an annual state-mandated screening and is required for all students Grade 5 – 9. The purpose of Postural Screening is to evaluate students for early spinal problems. It is not a diagnostic service but a program to identify students who should have further medical evaluation. The majority of children do not have spinal problems. Referrals will be sent to parent/guardian for those who do not pass screening. If your child has all ready been screened or is currently under treatment please send in a note from your Physician.
Postural screening is a simple brief observation of the child’s back while standing and bending forward. To allow for optimal viewing of the spine, female students are reminded to please wear a bathing suit or halter top under their clothing. Girls and boys will be screened separately and all students will be provided privacy during screening.
If you have any questions regarding Postural Screening, please contact
Amy Klausmeyer, School Nurse, at 508-886-0073.
To all Parents/Guardians:
REMINDER to Parents of students entering 7th Grade: STATE LAW MANDATES that students entering Grade 7 in September must have a TD/Pertussis Booster (TDaP) if more than 5 years since last dose, have the hepatitis B series, and documentation of varicella (chicken pox) or current varicella (TWO doses) immunization. If you have not all ready done so, please mail proof of these immunizations to your School Nurse BEFORE THE START OF SCHOOL to avoid noncompliance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health Regulations and EXCLUSION FROM SCHOOL.
REMINDER to Parents of Students Entering 8th Grade: Your student must have an eighth grade physical or a physical within the last 4 years.
Also, athletes must have an updated physical examination on file each year.
Please send an updated copy of your physical form to the School Nurse in order to keep your child’s health records up to date.
Annual physicals and proof of concussion information completion are REQUIRED for all sports!
Thanks you for your cooperation in these very important matters. Please contact me if you have any questions.
